Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database

I’ve been meaning to share this website for some time. It should be a link on everyone’s computer! Skin Deep is an extensive cosmetic database that rates products on their toxicity levels. Gentlemen, don’t think this site doesn’t apply to you. The term “cosmetic” not only refers to make-up, but also the daily soap, deodorant, shampoo, and more that is found in the typical home. I was not only shocked to find high toxic ratings on many of the common cosmetic products we use, but even more stunned when higher toxicity ratings were also found in my “organic” products. You should really check this site out!

I’ve done some reading on FDA regulations (or lack there of) for personal products but really don’t have any expertise on this topic. However, what I have found is that our government regulations (as to what is allowed in consumer products) is far less prohibitive than most industrialized nations. I hope to do more reading this summer.
