They’ve Arrived!

They arrived yesterday! The FedEx truck pulled up, our dog Kineo made himself comfortable in the driver’s seat until he received his biscuit, and two packages were handed over.

The larger of the two was an iPhoto book that we are taking to show pictures of our life. The cover on the book is a picture of the cake that my teaching cohort’s had made from a student map on our supposed first departure to Kazakhstan last spring. (I loved that cake!) All of the text has been translated to Russian with many thanks to two friends of Doug’s at work who just happen to be from Belarus and Kazakhstan.

When I saw the package containing the visas, however, I was a bit worried. The only objects in this flimsy cardboard FedEx folder was our passports. Where were our visas? Upon a little more investigating, I found our visas glued to the insides of our passports. This being my first visa ever applied for and granted I was expecting something a little more grandiose, but this will do just fine! No complaints here (for once)!

Why the delay? A computer system went down somewhere just after our visa applications arrived. Although our confirmation number was in the system, some of the correlating names weren’t with the assigned numbers. A call to our agency, MAPS, sent our coordinator on the investigative trail and by Monday we were again matched to our number so that the visas could be processed. (Thanks, Libby!)

Only a few days to go!!!! Now the real packing can begin!

Sorry! I needed a double take to realize my last comment was misplaced. You received th FedEx in Freeport, not Frankfurt, silly me. Well, at least, the visas were not for Germany …
