Our Traveling Companion…And Friend

It has been an entire week since we’ve arrived in Kostanai and a week and a day since arriving in Kazakhstan. Time certainly does fly quickly, especially when you are in unfamiliar territory.

As I’ve been rereading some of these entries, I’ve been amazed that I haven’t yet mentioned Natascha. At first, I didn’t include her in the Blog, wanting to respect her anonymity as far as this trip went. But, in reality, she doesn’t mind being part of our online posts. This is a good thing, because we’ve spent almost our entire trip together since meeting in the Frankfurt airport.

We had been told another woman also adopting from our agency, MAPS, would be traveling on the same flights from Frankfurt and Kostanai. Although we both knew of each other, we hadn’t had time to connect before the trip and finally met about an hour before our departure in Germany. Some how we picked Natascha out of the various people sitting in the terminal and she did the same. We adopting parents must emit adoption pheromones that attract us to one another.

Natascha hails from Vermont and is adopting as a single mom. It takes a strong person to persevere through the adoption process and an even stronger one to do it alone. Atleechna!

This past week has been a challenge and the three of us have shared experiences and frustrations that no one else could understand and, hopefully, will never have to go through. (As I’ve said, the process hasn’t been typical.) Although we’ve only know each other for just over seven days, it seems as though our new friendship has spanned a much longer time. We look forward to the continued growth of our relationship and, hopefully, that of our children. Natascha, so glad you’re here with us!
